1. Gather your supplies
The first step in making cannabis oil is to gather your supplies. You’ll need cannabis flower or trim (preferably high-THC strains), vegetable glycerine (VG) or propylene glycol (PG), glass jars with lids, wax or parchment paper, cheesecloth or coffee filters, rubber bands or string, and a double boiler.
2. Decarboxylate the cannabis
Decarboxylating the cannabis helps to ensure that all the active compounds are activated so that they can be absorbed into the oil. To decarboxylate your weed, preheat your oven to 245 degrees Fahrenheit and spread your ground bud out on baking sheets lined with wax or parchment paper. Place them on the middle rack of your oven and bake for 25 minutes before turning off the heat and letting them cool completely.
3. Dipping into the VG/PG mix
Once your buds have cooled after decarburising them in step 2 above, add 1 cup of either vegetable glycerin or propylene glycol into each Mason jar, followed by ½ ounce of ground marijuana per jar, then close each lid tightly with rubber bands or string until secure enough not to pop open during the boiling process in the next step below. Seal each jar airtight by placing a layer of cheesecloth over the opening, then replace the lid tightly.
4. Boil water & simmer jars
Now place both full jars in a large double boiler pan half-filled with water, cover tightly with a lid and place on a medium heat on the stove until the water inside slowly boils for about 60-90 minutes, stirring occasionally throughout the process. Once boiling is complete, remove the jars from the heat source and place them away from direct flame to allow them to cool completely before handling.
5. Strain & bottle your cannabis oil
Once cooled, strain the contents of each jar through several layers of cheesecloth directly into separate clean glass bottles, discarding any remaining solids.
